Carpet Tile Installation in Katy
We install carpet tile in game rooms, home offices, kids' rooms and media rooms. You get a soft floor where one stained square can be lifted and replaced, a realistic install date, and an arrival window we keep you posted on if anything shifts.
Modular Carpet and the Rooms It Suits
Carpet tile comes as separate squares or planks, most often 24 by 24 inches or 18 by 36 inches, and each piece carries a rigid backing that takes the place of a separate pad. That backing lets every piece lie flat by itself and come back up without tearing its neighbors.
It earns its place in rooms that take abuse: a playroom with juice cups, a bonus room over the garage where the dog sleeps, a home office with a rolling chair. When broadloom carpet stains, you live with it or replace the room. With carpet tile, we pull the damaged square and drop in a spare from the same dye lot.
It is not the right floor for every room. In bedrooms where you want deep, plush cushion underfoot, our carpet installation page covers wall-to-wall carpet over pad. In wet areas, tile flooring or luxury vinyl tile is the better call, and we will tell you so on the phone.
What Your Carpet Tile Job Includes
- Measuring and layout planning
- We measure each room and plan the starting lines so cut pieces at the walls are no thinner than half a tile. Thin slivers at doorways lift and fray, so we shift the grid to avoid them.
- Removing the old floor
- We pull existing carpet, pad and tack strip, then scrape staples and old adhesive. Tack strip nails leave holes in a slab that we fill so they don't telegraph through the new backing.
- Slab prep and moisture check
- Most homes around Katy sit on concrete slabs, and slab moisture is what breaks down carpet tile adhesive. We test before we glue, patch low spots and cracks, and grind high ridges so the tiles lie flat.
- Release adhesive and installation
- We roll on a pressure-sensitive release adhesive and wait for it to flash from milky to clear before setting tiles. That tack holds each square in place but lets it lift cleanly when you need to swap one.
- Pattern of your choice
- Tiles have arrows on the back showing pile direction. We set them monolithic, quarter-turn, ashlar or brick, depending on the look you want and how the product is made to hide seams.
- Transitions, cleanup and spares
- We fit transition strips where carpet tile meets hard flooring, vacuum the finished floor and haul off the old material. Leftover full tiles stay with you, labeled by room.
Signs a Room Is Ready for Carpet Tile
Stains that won't come out
If your carpet cleaner keeps lifting the same spot and it keeps wicking back, the stain has reached the pad. Carpet tile limits future damage to one replaceable square.
Pet accidents in one area
Urine soaks through broadloom into the pad and slab, and the odor returns on humid days. We pull everything, treat the slab and start fresh with tiles you can swap individually.
Seams splitting or rippling
Rolling chairs and heavy furniture stretch broadloom until it ripples and seams open. Glued carpet tile has no stretch to lose.
Existing tiles curling or sliding
Edges that curl up or tiles that drift usually mean the adhesive failed, often from slab moisture or the wrong product. We find the cause before we reinstall.
A room changing purpose
A nursery turning into a playroom or a guest room becoming an office is a good time to switch to a floor that handles hard use.
What Moves the Price of Carpet Tile
Two things set most of the cost: the tile you pick and the shape the slab is in once the old flooring comes up. After we measure, we go over an itemized estimate with you by phone, line by line. Any slab repair gets flagged and explained before anyone starts on it.
Tile construction and backing
Hardback PVC tiles, cushion-backed tiles and solution-dyed nylon versus polyester all price differently. Cushion backing costs more but feels closer to carpet over pad.
Square footage and room shape
Closets, angled walls and lots of doorways add cuts and waste. A simple rectangle uses material more efficiently.
Removal and slab condition
Glued-down flooring takes more time to remove than carpet over pad. Cracks, high spots or moisture problems add patching, grinding or a moisture-barrier primer.
Pattern choice
Ashlar and brick patterns can create more waste at the walls than monolithic or quarter-turn layouts.
Furniture and transitions
Heavy pieces like sectionals or desks add handling time, and each doorway to hard flooring needs a transition strip.
How Your Install Day Runs
- 1
Phone call and measure date
On the call we talk through the room, the product and the existing floor, then set a measure appointment with an arrival window. If that window moves, we call you before it does.
- 2
Material order and a real install date
Carpet tile often ships by the carton from a distributor. We give you an install date once the material is confirmed, not a guess, and we let you know right away if a delivery slips.
- 3
Tear-out and slab prep
Our crew moves furniture, removes the old floor and preps the slab. We are insured, which covers the work in your home while furniture and old flooring are moving through it. If patching compound needs time to cure, we tell you how long before we start.
- 4
Adhesive, layout and setting tiles
We snap chalk lines from the center of the room, roll adhesive, let it flash and set tiles tight along the lines. Most single rooms are done in a day.
- 5
Walkthrough and furniture back
We walk the floor with you, check edges and transitions, and put furniture back. You can walk on it right away.

Carpet Tile Questions
How do I replace a single carpet tile later?
Lift a corner with a putty knife and pull the tile up, since the release adhesive keeps enough tack without bonding permanently. Set a spare in the same orientation using the arrow on the back and press it down. If the adhesive has lost its grip, a small amount of fresh release adhesive fixes it.
Will carpet tile feel hard underfoot?
Hardback tiles feel firmer than carpet over pad, closer to a commercial floor. Cushion-backed tiles add a built-in foam layer that softens it noticeably. We can describe both on the call so you know what you are choosing.
Can you install carpet tile in my game room upstairs?
Yes. Upstairs rooms usually have a plywood or OSB subfloor instead of concrete, so we check for squeaks, loose sheets and raised fastener heads first. Securing the subfloor before gluing keeps the tiles flat and quiet.
What happens if a few squares curl up months after the install?
Every installation we do carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. Should an edge curl or a square drift because of the way we set it, we schedule a return visit and put it right. Pile wear and fading are different, since those fall under the manufacturer's product warranty, and we can help you read through its terms.
How long until I can use the room?
You can walk on carpet tile as soon as we finish, since the adhesive is set before tiles go down. We suggest waiting a day before rolling heavy furniture across it so the tiles fully seat.
