Carpet Installation in Katy, TX
We measure your rooms, plan the seams, lay new pad and power stretch the carpet so it stays flat for years. You get a set install date, an arrival window, and a heads-up from us if anything about that plan changes.
What a Good Carpet Install Actually Involves
Carpet looks simple, but most of what goes wrong with it is an installation problem, not a carpet problem. Ripples come from carpet that was only pushed tight with a knee kicker instead of stretched with a power stretcher. Visible seams come from poor layout or seam tape that was never heated and set properly. Lumps and soft spots usually trace back to pad that was too thin or had broken down.
Most homes around Katy sit on concrete slabs, so we check the slab for cracks, high spots and old adhesive before the pad goes down. Then we install new tack strip where the old strip is rusted or loose, lay the pad, join the carpet with hot-melt seam tape, and stretch it wall to wall. We are insured, and every installation carries our 1-year workmanship warranty.
The other half of the job is timing. We tell you how long the carpet takes to arrive, which day we install, and the window when the crew shows up. If a roll is delayed or a job before yours runs long, you hear it from us before your day is affected.
What Your Carpet Installation Includes
Measuring and seam layout
Broadloom carpet comes in 12-foot and sometimes 15-foot widths, so we draw a seam plan before ordering. Seams go away from doorways and main walking paths where possible, and pile direction stays consistent from room to room.
Old carpet and pad removal
We pull the existing carpet and pad, scrape staples and debris, and haul the old material out. You do not need to rent a dumpster or stack rolls by the curb.
Tack strip and subfloor prep
Rusted, cracked or loose tack strip gets replaced, since that strip is what holds the stretch. On slabs we grind high spots and patch cracks that would telegraph through the pad.
New pad matched to the carpet
We recommend pad by density and thickness, not just feel. A firmer pad, often 8-pound rebond at around 7/16 inch, supports the carpet backing and keeps seams from separating.
Power stretching and seaming
Every room is stretched with a power stretcher so the carpet locks onto the tack strip under tension. Seams are joined with hot-melt tape and the cut edges sealed so they do not fray.
Transitions and cleanup
We fit metal or matching transitions where carpet meets tile, vinyl or wood, check that doors swing clear, and vacuum the finished rooms before we leave.
How to Tell Your Old Carpet Has Worn Out
Wrinkles after a restretch
When a room was restretched and the bumps show up again within months, the carpet backing has lost its grip or the pad beneath it has flattened out. At that point another stretch is a short-term patch, and new carpet and pad are the lasting fix.
Flattened walking paths
Worn lanes down hallways and in front of the couch tell you the yarn has lost its twist. A deep clean removes soil, but it cannot bring crushed pile back up.
Pad you can feel through the carpet
Cross the room in socks. Grit, stiff patches or the hard feel of concrete underfoot mean the cushion has crumbled and the backing is taking the wear.
Smells that return after cleaning
Pet accidents and spills soak through the backing into the pad, and some reach the slab. If an odor comes back after professional cleaning, the source sits below the carpet, and the fix is removing the pad and sealing the concrete before new carpet is laid.
Seams pulling apart
A seam that has split snags vacuum brushes and bare feet, and the frayed edge keeps unraveling once it starts.
How Your Carpet Installation Runs
- 1
Phone call and measure visit
We talk through your rooms by phone, then measure in person and check the floor underneath. You get a written estimate with the seam layout and pad noted.
- 2
Ordering and a set date
Once you choose your carpet, we confirm when it will arrive and book your install day. You get a morning or afternoon arrival window, not just a date.
- 3
Updates if anything shifts
If a roll ships late or a dye lot does not match, we call you as soon as we know and offer the next workable date. You will not be waiting at home for a crew that is not coming.
- 4
Install day
We move standard furniture, tear out the old carpet, prep the floor, then lay pad and stretch the new carpet. A typical job of two or three bedrooms plus a family room usually wraps up by the end of the same day.
- 5
Walkthrough
Before we leave, we walk the rooms with you, check seams, edges and transitions, and make sure doors close properly.
What Affects the Cost of Carpet Installation
Carpet pricing depends on more than the price of the carpet itself. The layout of your rooms, the pad you choose and what we find under the old carpet all move the total. Your written estimate lists each of these separately so you can see where the money goes.
- Square footage and waste
- Because carpet comes in fixed roll widths, oddly shaped rooms and long hallways can create more waste than the floor area suggests. A smart seam plan keeps that waste down.
- Carpet and pad choice
- Fiber type, face weight and pad density all change the material cost. A better pad often extends the life of a mid-range carpet more than upgrading the carpet alone.
- Removal and floor prep
- Tearing out old carpet, replacing tack strip and grinding or patching the slab add labor. Pet-damaged areas that need sealing add a bit more.
- Stairs and furniture
- Stairs are measured and wrapped one step at a time, so they cost more per foot than open rooms. Heavy items like pianos or full bookcases may need to be cleared ahead of time.
Carpet Installation Questions
Something not covered here? (346) 559-3108
How long does carpet installation take?
Most installs of three or four rooms are done in a single day. Larger homes, stairs, or slab repairs can push it into a second day. We tell you which to expect when we book the date, so you can plan around it.
Do you move the furniture?
Yes, we move beds, dressers, sofas and tables and put them back afterward. Please empty dresser tops, closet floors and fragile items beforehand. Electronics and anything unusually heavy should be discussed when we schedule.
What happens if my carpet arrives late?
We confirm delivery before your install day. If a shipment slips, we call you right away with a new date and arrival window rather than letting you find out the morning of.
Will my doors need to be trimmed?
Sometimes. New carpet and pad can sit higher than the old, worn set, and doors with little clearance may rub. We check this during the measure visit and let you know in advance.
Is the installation covered if something goes wrong?
Yes. Our 1-year workmanship warranty applies to every installation we do. If a seam starts to separate or the carpet goes slack because of an installation fault, we schedule a return visit and make it right. Wear and defects in the carpet itself fall under the manufacturer's coverage.
Can you do the stairs at the same time?
Yes. We can carpet the stairs along with the rooms, and our Stair Flooring page covers the other options if you want something harder-wearing there.
